WFP BORESHA LISHE

Specific objective: To improve the access and the use of nutritious food by women and children through Social Behavioral Change and Communication.

Project Coverage: Dodoma region.
1. 2017-2018, the project covered 2 Districts namely Chamwino and Bahi with 27 Wards, 18 in Chamwino Dc and 11in Bahi Dc. The covered villages were 61, 39 in Chamwino and 22 in Bahi.
2. From 2019-2021, the project covers 1 district of Chamwino in 18 wards and 39 villages.
Project duration.
5 years from 2017 to 2021.

Project Beneficiaries.
 Pregnant women
 Lactating women
 Children under two years.
 Caregivers of children under two years,
 Women of reproductive age (15 to 49 years)
 Households with low income.
Project results
Result 1: Behavioral change toward improved feeding practices and consumption of a diversified diet is promoted and increased at community level..
Result 2: Production of nutritious crops, small scale livestock, and access to nutritious diversified food is enhanced.
Result 3: Coordination, knowledge and information management is improved to guarantee efficient monitoring and planning of action by local and central authorities.
Project approach
The project uses “Care group Model” to reach beneficiaries in the community. The model starts by training promoters and then promoters cascade to 45 care group volunteers, each care group volunteer cascade the training to 10 neighbor households.
Project main activities.
 Provision of MIYCAN and SBCC education to the community (Food Basic food and nutrition education, proper food preparation, Education on proper WASH practices, Education on proper vegetable drying, exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding and meal planning)

 Mobilization and Establishment of Village Community Banks (VICOBA)

Project Achievements from 2017 to 2020.
 The project targeted to reach a total of 22,395 direct beneficiaries, until October the reached is 21,959 equivalents to 98%.
 Observed behavioural change in the community toward eating habits, food diversification, meal planning and exclusive breastfeeding.
 High adaptation of proper WASH practices in the community.
 Improved health status among community members.
 Formation of 95 VICOBA groups equivalent to 121.7%
 Improved living standard of women through VICOBA groups.
 Increased household income through VICOBA groups.
 Improved food and nutrition security through profits gained in VICOBA groups.
 Establishment of Income Generating Activities (IGAs) for VICOBA groups and Individuals.
